The creative industries in Germany
The creative industries are a relatively new economic sector and stimulant for new technologies and innovations.
The Cultural and Creative Industries initiative was brought to life in 2007. Its contribution to the overall economic performance in Germany in 2014 was over 67.5 billion euros (2.3 per cent). This makes the creative industries comparable to large sectors such as the automotive, chemical and financial services industries as well as energy suppliers. It is estimated that 97% of the companies are micro-businesses.
The creative industries combine traditional economic sectors, new technologies and modern forms of information and communication. The software industry in particular shows the special potential of the new sector with the interconnection of different fields such as film, video, music, text and even animation.
